Which riser to choose for your business?
The mast represents a key component in the forklift structure: it is the tool through which it is possible to lift and move goods and store them.
Before choosing a forklift, whether new or used, it is important to make some assessments to avoid buying a vehicle that could be unsatisfactory for the performance of our work.
The first step to take is to measure the lifting height we must reach for the storage of our goods.
It is necessary to measure the height of the highest shelves on which we have to place our materials.
About 20-25 cm will be added to the height to have an additional lifting capacity, which is important for all the loading/unloading operations of the shelving.
After taking this measurement, it is also important to measure the doors to be sure that the mast of our forklift can pass under them without problems.
So, before proceeding with an evaluation of the forklifts that you can find for sale and/or for hire, it is important to establish the maximum extension you need and the minimum space required to be able to move the forklift within your spaces.
There are four types of a mast for forklift:
Simplex uprights, is characterized by the presence of only one lifting extension. It can be Simplex or Simplex G.V. (highly visible)
Duplex masts , have two lifting extensions. They are defined as GAL, an acronym for Great Free Lift , because they can add significant lifting heights, as well as offering excellent visibility to the driver
Triplex masts, have three lifting extensions. This too, like the Duplex, is called GAL, that is to say, a Large Free Lift due to the great heights that can be reached.
Quadruplex masts, have four skids for lifting the forks and are those with the greatest number of extensions (to reach the greatest heights)
Therefore, we remind you that, before proceeding with the purchase and/or rental, it is important to:
- Measure the height at which you will have to lift your materials and add to this about 20 centimeters to facilitate maneuvers
- Measure the height of the doors and gates where your electric forklift will pass, to choose one with a footprint compatible with your premises
Finding the right mast for your spaces and premises is certainly one of the secrets to having an excellent vehicle, performing and suitable for your workloads. For this reason, it is crucial to contact professionals in the intralogistics sector who know how to advise and help you in the necessary assessments.
